I have been a licensed, doctoral-level psychologist since 1984. I received my Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley. Postdoctoral work and clinical training was provided as a Fellow of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in Adolescence at the University of Chicago and the Michael Reese Medical Center. Subsequently, as a member of the faculty of the University of California, San Francisco Medical School in Fresno, I had an opportunity to do NIMH- funded research on family functioning and health outcomes, provide clinical service to adults, couples, and their families at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and to teach psychology interns and first-year psychiatric residents. I was provided advanced training during that period in working with couples and their relationship issues. I also continued to receive training in alcohol and drug abuse, so often a major factor in adult and adolescent behavioral health, and in marital well-being. I subsequently became Clinical Director of the Peninsula Hospital Adolescent Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center before moving into private practice full-time in 1987. I have been a member of the Professional Staff of the Mills-Peninsula Hospital since 1988, and have actively attended patients at the hospital. Throughout private practice I have been active in the San Mateo County Psychological Association (SMCPA), serving as President in 1990.
